The Wisconsin Psychiatric Association offers a psychiatry mentoring program for medical students as an opportunity to gain exposure to the field of psychiatry that may be different and/or broader than experiences available through the medical school curriculum.
Students from both the Medical College of Wisconsin and the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health may sign up to participate and be paired with a WPA member mentor. When possible, pairings will be based on personal preferences (geographic location, psychiatric discipline, etc.). Students are encouraged to keep an open mind, as some will learn simply by meeting for coffee with their mentor, while others may have an opportunity to shadow their mentor in a patient care setting.
Once paired, the student is expected to initiate communication and coordination of meetings with their mentor. Students must also agree to provide feedback about their experience to the WPA office. (Mentors: Sign-Up Here)
