WPA's Mentor Program pairs WPA members with Wisconsin medical students as an opportunity for students to gain exposure to the field of psychiatry. Any member is welcome to sign up to mentor a student. Students and mentors will be paired by WPA, with consideration given to student interests (geographic location, clinical interest, etc.) when possible.
Mentors are expected to meet with their students at least three times. While introductions and ongoing correspondence can be done electronically, the goal is for the mentoring pairs to meet either in person or by phone when possible. These meetings can vary from very informal, such as meeting for coffee, to a more structured experience when the student shadows their mentor in a patient care setting.
Once paired, the student is instructed to initiate communication with their mentor. During the course of your mentoring experience, please don't hesitate to provide feedback about your experience to the WPA office.
